The Haunting of Two Brains

So after Comic Con last weekend you'd think I'd just wanna relax for a few days, which would have been the plan if there hadn't been two free film screenings the following days, and you all know how much I love movies.

The first was The Man With Two Brains (1983) at the Quilliam Brothers Teahouse, which is one of my favourite places to hang out in Newcastle, it was also part of Screen Demons, a local Horror Film Festival currently going on in the city.

The film stars Steve Martin as a brain surgeon and Kathleen Turner as his unfaithful and murderous new wife, and as you may have guessed the film is a comedy but with sci-fi and horror elements.  I found the film to be damn funny especially the dialogue, lots of great lines that had me laughing my head off so much so that I'm sure I missed other jokes from laughing so much.  I was tempted to write some of my favourite jokes here but I don't want to spoil any, if you are looking for a good laugh give this one a go.

But if you are looking for a good scare then this may be the film for you, a cult classic British horror film dealing with the supernatural and one woman's mental breakdown, directed by the legendary Robert Wise the film was of course The Haunting (1963).

I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoyed this film, I'm a fan of classic horror film's to begin with but this one is a special treat as everything in it feels so well designed and planned.  From claustrophobic sets to incredible use of camera angles the film just revels in the strange atmosphere it builds and sucks you in as scene after scene build tension.  Of course the film has a brilliant cast to go along with it's fantastic crew, if you haven't seen this one you must, while some people may find elements of it to be dated I would say the film has aged incredibly and is likely to leave you with chills.

Long Time No Post

So it's been almost a year since I posted here, sorry about that!

A lot's happened in that time, I helped out on the shooting of couple short films (not in any major role but still cool), I became a published writer (which is most certainly very cool) and I've seen a tone more films.  So I've been thinking about this blog and weather I had time to write movie reviews as I'm focusing a lot more on writing fiction, so i've made the decision to keep this blog going but to write about more than just films, it'll also be a place for me to write about my work and other cool things.  I will still write about film but the posts are likely to be shorter.

Anyway, my next post will be about a couple free film screenings I saw this week but in the mean time here's the amazon link for my first published short story.
